I feel that there isn't really a big connection between the Freedom Writers and I. I think it was a good movie and maybe some of the points were true but it seemed as if there was to much violence. I only know one person who was shot and killed and it wasn't because he was in a gang it was because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The freedom writers made it seem like every time they walked out the house they were going to get shot or jumped I've never seen places like that and I don't think they exist. The movie played on violence and the struggle to survive to much and it didn't seem realistic I think the producers where trying to make it more interesting for us to watch. It also seemed like everyone was in a gang, I don't think there are any gangs in Philly, I haven't met any one in a gang.
As for the connection between African Slavery and the Holocaust they have a few similarities. They both singled out one race but for different reasons Europeans wanted people to do what ever they wanted for free, Hitler tried to kill off a whole race because he was racist for whatever reasons. I don't know which one was worst because they were both taken a way from there homes against there wills and tortured but Africans were just whipped and even though thats bad they played mind games during the holocaust like seeing how far bullets would go between bodies , experimenting with different blood types and playing with acid and poison.Even though Africans weren't fed the best foods they did eat because the slave masters wanted them alive to work, the holocaust victims on the other hand had to starve because it was no big deal to the Nazi's if they died because they wanted to get rid of them anyway. Both ordeals were horrible and cruel and I feel sympathy for both the holocaust victims and the African slaves. Watching and reading about both topics depress me to no end ,but I'll watch a movie on the holocaust before a slave narrative because the holocaust happened to a different race of people and it's not that I don't still get depressed hearing about them, it's just slavery happened to my ancestors and hurts more watching people like you go through things like that.
